Herman Miller Aeron Chair (Remastered)

The 25-year benchmark for ergonomic seating, remastered in 2016 with PostureFit SL lumbar and 8Z Pellicle mesh. Sized A/B/C — get the right size or skip it. $1,545 list, but holds resale value better than any chair on the market. 12-year warranty.

Quick Answer

Is the Herman Miller Aeron Chair (Remastered) worth buying in 2026?

The build quality, smooth recline, and 12-year warranty are unmatched in the premium chair market. However, the hard plastic frame strictly dictates how you sit, punishing anyone who likes to cross their legs or lounge. Without seat depth adjustment, choosing the exact right size

After 6+ Months

Owned a Size B for 5 years. Daily 8-10 hour use. The mesh has zero sag — same tension as day one. Replaced one armrest pad ($45 from Herman Miller). The PostureFit SL takes a week to dial in but is the only lumbar system I have used that does not push my lower back forward over time.

Why this chair

The Aeron is the only chair I recommend without an asterisk for users who sit 6+ hours daily and have the budget. Three things justify the price:

  1. Size-fitted. Most chairs come in one size and force you to "adjust." The Aeron comes in A/B/C and the right size means no compromise.
  2. Mesh durability. I've tested 6 mesh chairs at the $300-$700 tier; all of them sagged within 2-3 years. The Aeron's 8Z Pellicle mesh is graded — it doesn't.
  3. PostureFit SL lumbar. Two contact points instead of one. Took me a week to set up. After that, my lower-back pain stopped.

When to skip it

  • Budget under $800: Steelcase Leap V2 refurbished at $475 covers 80% of the use case for less than half the price.
  • You sit fewer than 4 hours/day: the marginal benefit doesn't justify $1,500.
  • You want a cushion seat, not mesh: look at the Embody or a Steelcase Leap V2 instead.
